Keiki Kokua Day 2009 a Great Success!

The 2nd Annual Keiki Kokua Day was a celebration of student achievements in environmental service learning. Over 800 students, parents and teachers from 13 school groups spent the morning at the Polynesian Cultural Center participating in hands-on environmental activities, viewing slideshows of each other’s Kokua Earth Action Projects, tasting local foods and healthy snacks, and visiting interactive booths.

The event culminated with a private concert for the students by Kokua Hawai’i Foundation co- founder Jack Johnson. Johnson was joined on stage by fellow Kokua board member, Kawika Kahiapo, and musical friends Zach Gill and the Banana Slug String Band.

To top off the fun, every student went home with a Keiki Kokua Day goody bag, complete with a reusable water bottle from SIGG, a HECO book cover about saving electricity, yummy snacks and a nutrition guide from Fruitabu, a Polynesian Cultural Center bookmark and coupon, and stickers from Whole Foods and Patagonia.

Many thanks to our Keiki Kokua Day Presenting Partners: Fruitabu, HECO, Polynesian Cultural Center, SIGG, and Whole Foods Market for helping to make this event a great success!
