Learn what flowers attract them, how to create a habitat for butterflies from trash, and plant flowers in the “Butterfly Garden�. Each keiki will receive a caterpillar and food to take home so they can experience the joy of watching a caterpillar turn into a butterfly before their eyes.

“Turn used water into real savings�
Jeremai Cann will lead this workshop on “graywater� catchment systems. Graywater refers to the reuse of water drained from baths, showers, washing machines, and sinks for irrigation and other water conservation applications. “Worms Eat My Garbage� Keiki Style
In this workshop your keiki we will get “up close and personal� with worms, learning how our organic waste can be made into compost by feeding it to worms that eat food scraps, cardboard, newspaper, and junk mail and learn all kinds of interesting facts about these wiggly creatures. We will also learn how to make a worm “home� out of recycled containers.

Kathy Maddox, personal chef and macrobiotic cooking instructor, will demonstrate the steps in preparing sea veggies and how to incorporate them into our daily meal plan. She will discuss the importance of sea veggies and how to prepare them in a variety of interesting ways.
The macrobiotic approach to wellness focuses on bringing balance to a person’s physical and emotional condition by utilizing foods that are balanced energetically and nutritionally. Recipes from the workshop will be provided.

Home Brewing with Hunter
Brew Your Own Fertizilers and Pest Control Formulas
Permaculture Designer, Hunter Heaivilin, will demonstrate how to mix common ingredients to fertilize your garden organically. We will whip up a batch of soap and explore the simple cleaning recipes our grandmothers used to make. These cleaners are safe, effective, inexpensive, and you may already have many of the ingredients in your kitchen cupboards. Bring your empty spray bottles and containers to fill with samples of the cleaners we make. A booklet of natural cleaning recipes will also be shared.

Making a Solar Oven
The sun gives off more energy in one second than people have used since the beginning of time! We will tap into that energy with Environmental Specialist, Jeremai Cann, who will demonstarte the joy of building and using a solar oven. We will make a very simple, durable, starter oven that can be made from items found around the house and cook up a batch of “cookie� crayons to take home.

Make a Rain Barrel Catchment System
Environmental Engineer,Jeremai Cann , will demonstrate how to make a rain barrel catchment system for your home. Collection of water from rooftop runoff can provide an ample supply of free ‘soft water’ containing no chlorine, lime or calcium. Rain water is ideal for many uses, it will also lower your monthly water bill and lessen your impact on the ‘aina.
