Farm Field Trips

Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation Field Trip Grants help bring students to outdoor sites where they can experience hands-on learning about Hawai’i’s environment. Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation offers financial assistance to Hawai’i public schools which otherwise could not afford to participate in environmental field trips. Most field trip locations provide hands-on learning experiences for students grades K-12 and offer educational tours that can be customized to any grade level.

Kahumana Organic Farm

Waiʻanae, Oʻahu
Grade Levels Served: PreK - Grade 12

Kahumana is a 25 acre certified organic farm located in the heart of Lualualei Valley on the beautiful west side. The farm operates as a social venture of their larger nonprofit organization, Alternative Structures International, whose mission is to serve the most vulnerable members of society, including adults with developmental disabilities and homeless families. Kahumana is the perfect place for students to bridge their relationship between food and farms. The farm offers half-day or daylong field trips, as well as overnight learning retreats and camps to learners of all ages. Through Kahumana Organic Farm’s school-to-farm āina-based education programs, students explore food systems and sustainability through the lens of the aquaponics system, free-range chicken coop, permaculture orchard, photovoltaic greenhouse, compost system, food hub, diversified vegetable fields, sheep and pig pasture, and service learning activities such as planting, harvesting or processing produce. There are many opportunities to align the field trip experience with NGSS standards and the current topics in your classroom. There is a fee of $12 per person, which includes a farm-fresh salad from their café to add to your lunch. Contact us at 808.696.2655 or [email protected] to schedule your field trip today!
