Congratulations to all Oʻahu DOE Schools!
On Friday, October 17th, the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education made an exciting announcement at Kalihi Waena Elementary School that each DOE school on Oʻahu will be provided recycling hauling services by December 2014. Since the Honolulu City & County’s Community Recycling Bin (or White Bin) program was discontinued in 2011, Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation has been working diligently with the DOE and schools across the island to bring back a recycling hauling service for schools on Oʻahu ….and now that hard work has paid off. A big Mahalo goes out to the DOE Facilities Branch as well as Rolloffs Hawaii who have stepped up to provide a recycling hauling solution for schools that has been long overdue.
Arrangements are already underway to prepare schools for these recycling services. Recycled items accepted will include: Plastic Bottles/Jugs, Glass bottles, Newspapers, Office Paper, Cardboard, Aluminum Cans, Bi-metals and Magazines. This hauling service includes pick up at least twice a week at each school campus.
We applaud the school communities across the state that continue to practice the 3R’s and acknowledge them for leading the charge toward reducing waste. KHF will be ramping up it’s 3R’s School Recycling Program on Oʻahu and will provide educational resources, trainings, and incentives for school who participate.
