ʻĀINA School Nuʻuanu Elementary Plants Fruit Tree Orchard!
July 31, 2019
Last month a volunteer group from DTRIC Insurance assisted with the establishment of an orchard at Nuʻuanu Elementary school. A group of twenty DTRIC volunteers, their families and ʻĀINA staff planted fourteen trees including a variety of citruses, mountain apple, ʻulu, and soursop! Although it was a cloudy day, the weather was perfect for the hard work of digging a trench to lay out water pipes to care for the growing orchard through the hot and dry summer months. Nuʻuanu was able to fund all of the irrigation supplies and keiki trees were purchased through a Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation Project Grant. Applications for KHF Project Grants are now open for the 2019-2020 school year! Click here for more information.
