Aloha ʻĀina Recycle Drive
The second Aloha ʻĀINA Recycling Drive of 2013 held at Kahuku High and Intermediate School on February 9th was an amazing success! Thousands of pounds of documents were turned in to be shredded, along with mounds of metal and bins of batteries. Also collected were household goods, computer and mixed electronic items, aluminum, glass and plastics. Collected items at the drive totaled:
• 5400 lbs of Scrap Metal | • 4 bags of Mixed Paper |
• 6507 lbs of Computers & Televisions | • 42 Ink/Toner Cartridges |
• 500 lbs of Household Goods | • 24 Laptops |
• 1 bag of Aluminum Cans | • 24 Cell Phones & Cameras |
• 2 bags of Mixed Plastics | • 16 Other Electronics Items |
• 4 barrels of Glass | • 285 lbs of Documents Shredded |
• 3 barrels of Office Paper | • 1700 lbs of Batteries |
• 1 bag of Cardboard |
Over 8 tons of recyclable material were collected which helped to clean up our neighborhoods and environment and save precious space in our landfills. Students from the Green Club, AVID, We the People, and Student Council were on hand to assist the recyclers for the day. Mahalo to Kahuku Farms for donating smoothies to our student volunteers.
