Kōkua Learning Farm Internship
January 23, 2023
We are excited to announce the Spring 2023 Kōkua Learning Farm Youth Internship Program! This program is open to 20 students in grades 9-12. High School students from across Oʻahu- private, public, and homeschool, are welcome and encouraged to apply. The Kōkua Learning Farm Youth Internship Cohort will meet on Wednesday afternoons in Haleʻiwa from 3:00pm to 5:00pm from February 1st through May 3rd. As a group, students will gain experience as mahiʻai through on-farm training to build skills and knowledge around agroecology, crop cultivation, fruit and vegetable production, soil health maintenance, and culinary explorations. Each week students will assist with ongoing farm tasks, become ʻāina stewards to the loʻi and kalo library, explore creative methods of transforming farm produce into delicious culinary creations and more. As plants mature and become ready to harvest, youth will be able to bring home farm fresh produce. After completing this program, participants will have the knowledge and skills to plan, maintain, and harvest their own home garden. No gardening experience is necessary and all interested youth are encouraged to apply!
