Lt. Governors’ Farm to School Initiative Update

March 07, 2017

The Hawaiʻi Institute of Pacific Agriculture (HIP Agriculture) recently posted a short video about their role in the the Kohala Complex’s pilot farm to school program. As a long-time advocate for healthy eating, garden education and farmer training in the district, HIP Agriculture jumped on the opportunity to help the program source locally grown products. “I think the Kohala farmers have been intimated by the bureaucratic process…HIP decided to jump into the process and get things rolling,” says Dash Kuhr, HIP Agriculture Executive Director.

HIP Agriculture has provided three orders of produce including hundreds of pounds of fresh fruit to the North Kohala FS2 Program so far. HIP Agriculture is working with the cafeteria chefs and Beyond Green Solutions to increase that amount in future deliveries. See some of the beautiful produce being delivered to Kohala Elementary, Middle, and High Schools here.
