Plastic Free Hawaiʻi Events Recap
August 28, 2019
Summer’s end sizzled for Plastic Free Hawaiʻi! With water stations at several events, families and friends of Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation rocked their waste-free ways and enjoyed the last days of the season.
-
Kahala Mall’s Annual Keiki Day
Families enjoyed games and prizes at the weekend event. Children wrote Love Letters to the Sea and grown-ups learned about the ways they can be plastic free day-to-day by visiting our education station. Our Plastic Free Commitment Wall was very popular with kids and adults alike who all stated their effort to be a little more waste-free.

Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club
We had a blast at the Plastic Free Pop-Up! We were joined by a few plastic free friends including Sundaze Bikinis, a sustainable bikini brand that uses upcycled ocean plastics, and Stacey G. Jewelry, a Kailua-based brand that incorporates ocean plastics into their jewelry and wall hangings.
Other fun events included:
- EF Language School held a student beach clean up at Kawela Bay where 65 international students collected an estimated 200-lbs. of both land and marine debris.
- Queen Kapiolani Hotel’s Sunset Sessions hosted 180 attendees on July 28th. Guests sipped drinks from KHF’s Plastic Free Hawaiʻi rCups while enjoying a late afternoon of music as the sun went down. Visit our educational outreach and merchandise table at the Sunset Session on Sunday, August 25th.
