Plastic Trashion Show
February 23, 2017
A Trashion Show was held on Friday, February 10th in Honolulu as participants flaunted plastic outfits at targeted locations, including Longs Drugs, due to their use of the plastic bag ban loophole distributing thicker plastic bags, as well as Nico’s restaurant, for giving all lunch customers polystyrene foam containers, even when dining in.
This event raised awareness about plastic and polystyrene foam (aka “Styrofoam”) on O‘ahu, with a goal to encourage the City and County to close the loophole in the Plastic Bag Ban and to advocate for the State to pass a ban on polystyrene foam food containers (SB1109 & HB1545).
This fun event was organized by organizations in Hawai‘i's Rise Above Plastics Coalition: Surfrider Foundation, Sustainable Coastlines Hawai‘i, Kokua Hawai‘i Foundation, and the Sierra Club O‘ahu Group.
