The month of April was full of plastic free action, and Plastic Free Hawaiʻi offered education, outreach and greening support to several events! In total, we eliminated the need for 11,500 single-use plastic water bottles, and reached over 3,000 community members with our tabling efforts.
On April 8, we provided our water refill stations to both the Kaʻaʻawa 5K Run as well as YMCA Healthy Kids Day, eliminating the need for 6,500 single-use plastic water bottles! We offered tote bags and sporks to giveaway with plastic-free commitments at several events including Kapiʻolani Community College’s Earth Day, Honolulu Community College’s Sustainability Showcase, Mililani Uka Elementary School’s Family Night, and the 5K Run for Girls on the Run of Hawaiʻi.
We offered our outreach and education table at the UH Mānoa Earth Day Festival as well as at Kaiser High School’s Earth Festival. On April 22, we offered our Plastic Free Hawaiʻi water refill stations and outreach tables at two events: the Sustainable Coastlines Hawaiʻi’s Annual Earth Day Cleanup at Waimānalo Beach Park and the 10th Annual Mauka to Makai Expo at the Waikīkī Aquarium.
