VegFest Oʻahu is a Plastic Free Event!

November 02, 2016

VegFest Oʻahu was on September 24 at Honolulu Hale, featuring 40 community booths, live music, cooking demos, a speaker series and vegetarian & vegan food from local food vendors. An estimated 5,000 people enjoyed the event.

Plastic Free Hawaiʻi worked with VegFest Oʻahu organizers to ensure the event was plastic-free. All food vendors used compostable cups, straws, utensils, plates & containers to serve food, beverages, and snacks. No single-use plastic water or beverage bottles were sold, and the Plastic Free Hawaiʻi water station was offered to provide free, filtered water to attendees. Sustainable Coastlines Hawaiʻi also donated zero waste stations to encourage separation of food waste and recyclables for maximum waste diversion. Food waste & compostable foodware were composted, and HI-5 cans and bottles were recycled.
