Volunteer & Partner Appreciation

May 30, 2018

The Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation board and staff celebrated the hundreds of volunteers who support our programs this school year with a fun filled day at Waimea Valley and a delicious meal prepared by Ke Nui Kitchen. Volunteers, Partners, and their families enjoyed an afternoon of activities including Hawaiian games, Produce Petting Zoo, Painting with Natural Dyes, kuʻi kalo pounding, Plastic Free Games, and making Plastic Free Commitments at the PFH Capture Your Commitment Wall. Families were treated to music by Kōkua Hawaiʻi Foundation Co-Founder Jack Johnson as they picnicked under the monkeypod trees. Ever true to our zero waste mission, volunteers were gifted a Plastic Free Hawaiʻi stainless steel pint cup and straw, and all meal waste was sorted, separated, and composted at a local farm.

A special thank you to our partners who made the day extra special: Hoʻokuaʻāina farm managers Akamu and Zack for sharing their love and skill of kuʻi with our families, the Waimea Valley Botanical & Education Departments for assistance planning the event and hosting Botanical Tours, Hawaiian Games, and a Native Hawaiian Plant Sale. Mahalo to all our volunteers and partners who help us to deliver and grow our programs!
