Plastic Free Hawaiʻi Events Recap

Oʻahu hosted several Plastic Free Hawaiʻi events:

• Papio Father-Daughter Group
  Sixty-eight fathers and daughters from the Papio Father-Daughter Group spent a day of service together. After a Plastic Free Hawaiʻi educational presentation, the group collected 42 lbs. of microplastics and debris from the shores of Malaekahana!
• Mokapu Elementary School 
  Over 100 Mokapu Elementary School families and faculty members removed 60+ lbs. of microplastics and marine debris from Mokapu Beach on the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base. The PFH water station kept volunteers hydrated all day. 
• Girl Scouts of America  
  At the “Take Action Summit”, Girl Scouts participated in a “round robin” and visited KHF’s outreach table to learn more about PFH’s goals for our island community. These service-oriented Girl Scouts are mighty wahine, working towards bronze, silver and gold awards while improving their community. 

Other fun waste-free events included:

• Kōkua Kai Day at Shriners Hospital, where PFH helped brighten the day of over 40 patients and their families. They composed Love Letters to the Sea, writing about ways we contribute to a healthier ocean ecosystem with the choices we make. Patients danced to live music, played games, and let their creative side shine through art projects.
• Makana jammed well past sunset at The Deck for Queen Kapiolani Hotel’s Sunset Sessions on August 25th. The lively crowd danced and sipped drinks from Plastic Free Hawaiʻi r.Cups . Visit PFH’s educational outreach and merchandise table Sunday, September 29. 

Plastic Free Hawaiʻi Water Refill Stations were a popular presence at waste-free events across Oʻahu, including: 

• Waimea Valley’s Summer Concert Series
• A Taste of Paradise at the Bishop Museum
• Shakas for Legend

At all these events and more, PFH Water Refill Stations were a hit with the #BYOBottle folks.
